Cloquet Fire
Sept 26th Fri. Went back to Duluth arriving in time for dinner. Went to see May Dacey at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Sept 27th Sat. Beautiful morning. Left Stella’s house in Duluth at 9 0’clock. Frank rode downtown with us. Followed the black + white part way + blue + white through Barnum, Cloquet + Moose Lake with their all new houses built since the terrible fire of last fall. Sandstown Hinkley. Ate lunch south of Hinkley. Overtook the Crosbys here. I rode from here with the Crosbys with the understanding that we were to meet at White Bear, and I was to go with the Konantz and then to Minn. Saw them last at Rush Aly, were the Crosbys stopped about 8 minutes to see a relative. There we came through a very sandy road through Center City, Lindstrom, Chisago City, Forest lake, Wyoming, Hugo, W. Bear, arrived at W. Bear at 6PM. To not make the Crosby’s late for their dinner, I insisted on their going on, and leave me to meet the Konantz, as was planned – Miss Luis, Mrs Florence Akely Smith? + Mrs _____ came through and wanted me to go home with them. They finally ate their dinner at a restaurant and still the K’s did not come. – but as there was no place to leave word, I let them come on home and I waited until 8PM – when I was so hungry, tired and dizzy, I got on a St car and came to Plaza (at 10:30PM) and found the K’s had not waited for us at W Bear. I was peeved. Stayed with Anne over night.
Sept 28th Sun, Came home about 9AM found Chester (Her son, Chester Dudley Lyford) in bed – home all day – Crosbys and Minnie called up.
